As a Maine state employee for 25+ years, I had no inkling that I could paint – or even that watercolor paint came in tubes! My “right brain” became known to the left, when I participated in an art sampler class in the spring of 2001. Recovering from open heart surgery, I decided good health demanded I give up my perfectionist “type A” ways, and I thought an art class could teach me more self tolerance since there is not one criteria by which to judge art.
I was simply flabbergasted when “right brain” leaped into action, and a watercolor painting of the western Maine Mountains and the Androscoggin River appeared on the paper before me. Since then, I have been expanding my knowledge of art, and painting watercolor landscapes. I’ve studied with Hallowell (Maine) artist Christopher Cart, and in September, 2005 will take a week long course with internationally known artist, Tony van Hasslet.
